Herschel Walker - Breaking Free

Herschel Walker Moves That Chain for Physical Education

Los Angeles, California (PRWeb) April 22, 2008 --

One of professional football's top running backs and greatest advocates for fitness and nutrition, Herschel Walker made a special appearance at the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) General Session on Thursday, April 10 at 11 am at the Ft. Worth, TX Convention Center.   The Heisman Trophy recipient pulled the name of the lucky individual, Shelly Connors, PE Teacher, Auburn High School, who won a free HOPSports training system for her physical education program which is valued at over $18,000.

Sponsored by HOPSports, an innovator of digital video-based fitness training, the NASPE General Session featured a keynote presentation on childhood obesity by Dr. Howell Wechsler, director of the Division of Adolescent and School Health for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

This month the NFL great is publishing his autobiography entitled Breaking Free (Simon & Schuster) followed by his appearance in two new documentaries that touch upon the discipline of training for mixed martial arts (MMA) with an emphasis on mind control in competition, a specialty of Walker.  The first, Underground Kings MMA, a Bobby Razak Production plans to air on cable and internet TV May-July 2008 followed by Mark Burnett Productions in association with ProElite network TV debut now in production.

Walker is also featured in the NFL's official training program and a national school campaign with HOPSports and Nui Kid Water to promote proper exercise and nutrition in an effort to combat childhood obesity.  A graduate of the University of Georgia, his professional career began with the upstart USFL in 1983. Over his award-winning career he played for the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and NY Giants.  A talented all-around athlete, he has a fifth degree black belt in tae kwon do and competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in the two-man bobsled, finishing seventh.  Walker recently carried the Olympic torch in San Francisco in promotion of the 2008 summer games.  Updates on Walker can be found at http://faldemolaei.com/herschelwalker.html
